The podcast series on ‘Data for Resilient Cities’ is a reflection on the interdisciplinary approaches taken or to be taken by various cities, offering examples of good practices and lessons learned. It is jointly hosted by the CODATA and Center for Applied Geomatics, CEPT Research and Development Foundation. It offers a rich collection of conversations, case studies and audio essays on the use of data and interdisciplinary appraoches for healthy and resilient cities. Eminent thinkers, practitioners, public decision-makers and policy advocates recall and reflect, discuss critical issues and point out ways forward.
Motivated by the excellent reception of a similar podcast series on architecture and urban planning, CRDF and CODATA have put together this podcast series which will have 12 episodes each launched fortnightly that will benefit researchers, serve as resource materials, work as useful analysis to practitioners and support research as archival material.

Introduction to the Podcast
There has recently been a conscious thrust for cities across the globe to be smarter and more sustainable by developing and implementing interdisciplinary big data technologies and their applications across various urban domains. Data interoperability is an essential step to understanding complex systems and to create the knowledge needed to drive effective policy. This in turn allows a city to reach the required level of sustainability and improve the living standard of citizens. Data-driven urbanism has gained momentum and traction as a promising response to the necessary transition towards sustainability, leading to improved cities performance in line with the goals of workable development and the requirements of urban growth.
Since the COVID-19 crisis has struck the world, the importance of interdisciplinary studies and the use of data across multiple domains and institutions to inform policy, action and create better human habitat has further evolved and become more marked. There are calls and efforts amongst the governments, development organizations, and businesses to bring all the available data together and to make data as available as possible. Sadly very few countries have been able to use existing data to the best of its potential. Data collection and sharing, and analytical models used in different sectors to build interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable and healthy cities remains a major challenge for authorities and researchers around the world.
In this podcast series, we learn from experts about the need for escalating interdisciplinary collaborations to address the complex issues evolving along the time. We have been looking at the interdisciplinary data sets recently with more hope. Many cross-domain studies have taken place to address urban issues. Countries around the world are looking into various approaches that involve big data analytics and data science to make the cities resilient and healthy.
