The 3rd Scientific Data Conference
The 3rd Scientific Data Conference, sponsored by Chinese National Committee for CODATA(CODATA-China), was held in Shanghai, China on 25-26 August, 2016. More than 380 experts, scholars and students from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, University of Michigan, Fudan University, Peking University and other research institutes participated this conference.
The conference had 2 plenary sessions and 20 breakout sessions, lasting for 2 days. The keynotes speakers gave wonderful reports on scientific data open and sharing supported by public finance, research big data development policy, e-Science infrastructure environment construction in big data era, how to build a global science and technology innovation center, scientific data and data science, challenges and problems of scientific big data. And the breakout sessions includes multidisciplinary such as materials, astronomy, space, geography, ecology, earth observation, scientific big data management, big data analysis and visualization, big data and high performance computing, big data and smart city, big data and precision medicine, big data in agriculture, marine science. In addition, the breakout session of national key research and development plan big data management system program further discussed how to manage and utilize more efficiently.
The conference theme is Scientific Data and Innovation Development. It focused on the topics of challenges and practices of research big data in discipline innovation, management innovation and industrial innovation. Scientific research entered an unprecedented scientific big data era. It makes scientific research changing and plays more important role in national economic construction. The conference made the conclusion and proposed that scientific data open and sharing should be supported by national finance, and scientific data serve S&T innovation and will accelerate the national innovation capacity construction.
Scientific Data Conference is one of the most successful academic activities in the past 30 years since CODATA-China was set up. Each year the conference attracted about 400 participants and had a significant effect on scientific data field in China. It aims to catch the core of the big data era and promote multidisciplinary communication and youth talent training, to deepen the traditional research pattern reformation and to service the national innovation development strategy.
