The Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) is an international alliance of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) throughout the Asia Pacific region. Representing over half of the global population, its members play a crucial role in providing high-speed network connectivity both domestically and internationally.
APAN is governed by 20 economies, ranging from Pakistan to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, along with more than 35 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and other partners.
This partnership has been active for 30 years and continues to expand, operating on a member-driven basis for the benefit of its members. APAN convenes biannually in different economies, attracting 200 to 300 participants.
The organization’s mission is to advance network technologies, strengthen regional research infrastructure, and promote global collaboration. APAN facilitates working groups, task forces, knowledge sharing, workshops, training sessions, masterclasses, and partnerships to support the development of advanced networks, connectivity, and applications.
Its activities are propelled by Working Groups and Task Forces focused on both technological and disciplinary domains. Examples of Discipline Working Groups include Agriculture, Disaster Mitigation, Open and Shared Data, e-Culture, Medical, Cloud, IoT, AI-Driven Networks, Routing, Security, HPC/AI, 5G & IPv6, Research Platforms, and many others developed over the years.
All Working Groups are open to participation from researchers, students, industry professionals, and government representatives.
