Applications are invited for the International Training Workshop on Scientific Data Standards and Technology 2024 is open. This year’s onsite training will be arranged in Beijing, China, on 18 November – 29 November, 2024 as an in-person event. (Note that dates of the training have been shifted from 4-15 November 2024).
The deadline for applications is 11:59 am CST (UTC+8) on 30 August 2024.
See http://intertraining2024.codata.cn/ for more information about the themes, training methods, eligibility and the application process.
Background
The establishment of internationally recognized scientific data standards is crucial for maintaining data quality, enhancing accessibility, and enabling cross-disciplinary collaboration. At the heart of this endeavor lies the practical application of such standards in scientific research, data stewardship, and international collaborations. To support this the use of advanced software tools is important to facilitate the implementation of standards while ensuring their practicality and viability.
During this workshop, we will delve into the fundamental principles and methodologies that form the backbone of international data and metadata standards. Simultaneously, we will discuss strategies to harmonize and promote interoperability among these standards across diverse scientific domains. This approach will ensure that the standards we develop are not just theoretical constructs but are also feasible and effective in real-world applications.
Introduction
With the deepening of scientific research and the increase of interdisciplinary collaboration, scientific data has become a crucial element in driving scientific research innovation. However, the diversity, complexity, and ever-growing volume of data pose significant challenges to data management, sharing, and analysis. To address these challenges, strengthening the construction of scientific data standards and the application of technology becomes particularly important.
Against this backdrop, CAS is cooperating with CODATA to support the International Training Workshop on Scientific Data Standards and Technology. The upcoming event will be facilitated by Chinese National Committee for CODATA, CNIC of CAS, National Basic Science Data Center. Uniting the joint efforts of these organisations, the 2024 International Training Workshop will focus on exploring the construction and application of scientific data standards, as well as the innovative application and best practices of data technology in scientific research. Qualified trainees will receive funding support to attend the onsite training (November 18th to November 29th, 2024, Beijing, China).
Training Methods and Themes
The 2024 training will feature diversified formats for knowledge-sharing, including a combination of introductory session, lecture-based teaching, seminars, discussions, technical sessions, field visits, and other interactive methods will also be arranged to take full advantage of the two-week onsite training.
This year, the theme of the training program is “International Training Workshop on Scientific Data Standards and Technology”, which primarily covers: 1) The international scientific data standard system, 2) The scientific big data technology system and 3) Open Science, WorldFAIR and the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF).
