Specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standard methods, non-standard methods, and laboratory-developed methods. Originally known as Guide 25, ISO 17025 was initially issues in 1999. The 2005 revision of ISO 17025 introduced greater emphasis on the responsibilities of senior management, the identification of internal communication needs, and explicit requirements for continual improvement of the management system itself, and particularly, communication with the client.
