{"id":833,"date":"2016-08-23T15:01:16","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T15:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/codata.org\/blog\/?p=833"},"modified":"2016-08-23T15:02:24","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T15:02:24","slug":"data-science-journal-special-collection-for-scidatacon-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codata.org\/blog\/2016\/08\/23\/data-science-journal-special-collection-for-scidatacon-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Science Journal Special Collection for SciDataCon 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Data Science Journal is pleased to announce that it will be publishing the high profile special <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.codata.org\/uploads\/images\/dsj_cover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"223\" \/>collection of papers from SciDataCon 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Authors with papers accepted for presentation at SciDataCon are also invited to submit their full papers to the\u00a0Data Science Journal. \u00a0Submissions should\u00a0be made at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/datascience.codata.org\/\">http:\/\/datascience.codata.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please note the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The deadline for submissions to be part of the SciDataCon 2016 special collection is 30 September.<\/li>\n<li>Even though abstracts were peer-reviewed and accepted as part of the conference process, the full paper will be peer-reviewed to ensure quality.<\/li>\n<li>Given the number of papers expected we are unable to waive the Article Processing Charge (APC) for all\u00a0papers, however the Data Science Journal is very competitive and has a progressive waiver policy for\u00a0those unable to pay the APC:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/datascience.codata.org\/about\/submissions\/\">http:\/\/datascience.codata.org\/about\/submissions\/<\/a> Please contact the Editor-in-Chief before submitting your article if you would like to request a waiver. Editorial decisions are made independently from the ability to pay the APC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SciDataCon 2016 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scidatacon.org\/2016\/\">http:\/\/www.scidatacon.org\/2016\/<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scidatacon.org\/site\/themes-scope\/\">http:\/\/www.scidatacon.org\/site\/themes-scope\/:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Advancing the Frontiers of Data in Research<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SciDataCon 2016 seeks to advance the frontiers of data in\u00a0all\u00a0areas of research. This means addressing a\u00a0range of fundamental and urgent issues around the \u2018Data Revolution\u2019 and the recent data-driven\u00a0transformation of research and the responses to these issues in the conduct of research.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SciDataCon 2016 is motivated by the conviction that the most significant contemporary research challenges\u2014and in particular those reaching across traditional disciplines\u2014cannot be properly addressed without\u00a0paying attention to issues relating to data. \u00a0These issues include policy frameworks, data quality and\u00a0interoperability, long-term stewardship of data, and the research skills, technologies, and infrastructures\u00a0required by increasingly data-intensive research. \u00a0They also include frontier challenges for data science: for\u00a0example, fundamental research questions relating to data integration, analysis of complex systems and\u00a0models, epistemology and ethics in relation to Big Data, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>The transformative effect of the data revolution needs to be examined from the perspective of all fields of\u00a0research and its relationship to broader societal developments and to data-driven innovation scrutinised.\u00a0\u00a0Taken together these issues form a multi-faceted challenge which cannot be tackled without expertise drawn\u00a0from many disciplines and diverse roles in the research enterprise. \u00a0Furthermore, the transformations around\u00a0data in research are essentially international and the response must be genuinely global. \u00a0SciDataCon is\u00a0the\u00a0international conference for research into these issues.<\/p>\n<p>SciDataCon2016 will take place on 11-13 September 2016 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel,\u00a0Denver, Colorado, USA. \u00a0It is part of\u00a0International Data Week, 11-16 September 2016, convened by\u00a0CODATA, the\u00a0ICSU World Data System\u00a0and the\u00a0Research Data Alliance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Data Science Journal is pleased to announce that it will be publishing the high profile special collection of papers from SciDataCon 2016.
