John Broome currently serves as CODATA Treasurer and is seeking re-election.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>He<\/strong> <strong>was nominated by the Canadian CODATA National Committee<\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<p>I am the current CODATA Treasurer, and I am willing to continue as Treasurer for a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> term.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.codata.org\/uploads\/images\/John_Broome2.jpg\" width=\"185\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My scientific experience with data includes over 30\u00a0years\u00a0in government and the private sector working on research data stewardship, architecture, policy, management, modelling, integration, and access. \u00a0\u00a0When I retired from Natural Resources Canada, I was responsible for data management policy and strategy for the Earth Sciences Sector.<\/p>\n<p>During my career, I have been an active member of numerous international groups focused on policy for improving the management, accessibility and interoperability of scientific and geospatial data.\u00a0 These activities include contributing to the\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onegeology.org\/\">OneGeology<\/a><\/u> initiative , representing the <a href=\"http:\/\/iugs.org\/\">IUGS<\/a> at the CODATA General Assembly, serving on the CODATA Executive Committee, and chairing the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.codata.org\/canada\/cnc-codata.shtml\">Canadian National Committee for CODATA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additional professional Details:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ca.linkedin.com\/pub\/john-broome\/b\/637\/44a\">John Broome &#8211; LinkedIn.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During my first term as Treasurer\u00a0my achievements included leading reform of the member dues structure to improve the alignment between member GDP and dues, improving the budgeting, financial tracking, and audit processes to facilitate monitoring CODATA\u2019s financial status, and improving communication of finances to the Executive Committee and Officers.<\/p>\n<p>If I am selected by the CODATA community to continue for a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> term as Treasurer, my priority would be to work with the Executive Committee and Officers to increase CODATA\u2019s revenue to permit further growth of our activities.\u00a0 CODATA is poised to expand its activities but there is a need for funds to retain additional human resources in the secretariat to free up our Executive Director to concentrate on strategic activities.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Increasing our revenue will likely involve modifying the current business model to include new revenue streams possibly through contracted work or partnerships with other organizations.\u00a0 I believe CODATA\u2019s future is bright and I hope I am able to continue to contribute to its growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the fourth in the series of short statements from candidates in the forthcoming CODATA\u00a0Elections.
