Rodrigo Roa is a candidate for the CODATA Executive Committee as an Ordinary Member.<\/span><\/i><b><i> He was nominated by Chile<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Rodrigo Roa: Candidacy for CODATA Executive Committee<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My professional path bridges\u00a0law, science policy, and data governance.\u00a0As\u00a0Executive Director of the Data Observatory, a public\u2013private foundation co-founded by the Government of Chile, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Adolfo Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez University, I lead initiatives that transform\u00a0large and complex datasets into public value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My work is grounded in building infrastructures that make data usable, trusted, and interoperable. Under my direction, the Data Observatory recently developed\u00a0Chile\u2019s National FAIR Data Policy,\u00a0approved by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID). To put these principles into practice, we created the\u00a0SURDATA Alliance,\u00a0a Latin American network for\u00a0interoperability and data governance\u00a0that connects public agencies, universities, and research centers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also serve on the\u00a0Strategic Committee of LatamGPT,\u00a0a large-language-model initiative led by the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA). There, we are developing regional datasets and computing infrastructure to ensure that artificial intelligence in Latin America reflects our languages, contexts, and values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, I had the privilege of convening the\u00a0first CODATA Committee in Latin America,\u00a0a step that symbolizes our commitment to make global data collaboration multilingual and inclusive. Science and data know no borders, and language should never be a barrier. My goal is to help\u00a0emerging economies implement FAIR principles, and to connect\u00a0CODATA\u00a0more closely with\u00a0governments, academia, and industry\u00a0across the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond data policy, I\u2019m also a\u00a0professional drummer\u2014a lifelong rock musician who believes rhythm is another form of connection. Music, like data, is a universal language that brings people together.
