The programme for the ICSU\u00a0CODATA Workshop on Big Data for International Scientific Programmes<\/a> which is taking place in Beijing on 8-9 June has now been finalised and is available here:\u00a0CODATA Big Data Workshop Programme-FINAL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The workshop is convened\u00a0with a number of international partners, including the ICSU World Data System<\/a>, Future Earth<\/a>, Integrated Research on Disaster Risk<\/a>, the Research Data Alliance<\/a>, the Group on Earth Observations<\/a>, the International Society for Digital Earth<\/a>, and the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI)<\/a> of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)<\/a>. \u00a0The workshop aims to provide a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges of \u2018Big Data\u2019 for international collaborative science programmes, and to promote international and cross-disciplinary collaboration, in the age of Big Data.<\/p>\n

\"BigIt is intended that proceedings and a report of the workshop will be published in the CODATA Data Science Journal<\/a>, while a ‘statement’ or position piece will be submitted to a high impact publication. Above all, the workshop brings\u00a0together Big Data experts and researchers involved in international research programmes and identify opportunities for future collaboration to facilitate specific research objectives: the objective is that such discussions\u00a0should help set the agenda for CODATA to help convene collaborative\u00a0activities in support of \u2018Big Data\u00a0for International Science\u2019. \u00a0Likewise, these\u00a0themes will feed into SciDataCon 2014<\/a>, the International Conference on Data Sharing and Integration for Global Sustainability, in New Delhi in November 2014.<\/p>\n
